Selection checklist
Specify the Complete Measurement Point
Thermocouple type is only one part of an assembly. Selection should begin with the actual process and installation rather than the thermocouple letter alone.
- Measurement point: surface, immersion, furnace, machinery or test installation.
- Construction: sheath diameter and length, junction, mounting and protection arrangement.
- Connection: cable route, termination, plug or head, and the receiving instrument.
- Process conditions: atmosphere, cycling, vibration and maintenance access.

Lead-wire or head termination
MI-37 offers several cable constructions for routing the signal to an instrument. For a connection-head format, compare the weatherproof-head J/K assembly. Select the termination and mounting together with sheath dimensions and junction type.
Does the instrument accept Type K?
Confirm that the indicator, controller or transmitter is configured for Type K input. A probe's type does not by itself define its output interface or connection. If a 4–20 mA loop is needed, compare the input options on the temperature transmitter models.
For a replacement K-type thermocouple, send the old drawing or part number, process temperature, sheath material, diameter, insertion length, junction, cable and quantity. Keep connector details and any extension cable specification with the enquiry. Ask for the quotation to identify the probe termination and instrument connection, especially when a transmitter is part of the requirement.
